Cortisone Joint Injections
Common conditions of joints such as tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow ,foot, ankle, knee and shoulder injuries etc can be treated in a number of ways. Usually rest, anti-inflammatory tablets and sometimes physiotherapy and osteopathy will resolve the problem. However in some cases the condition does not respond adequately to these measures and remains inflamed.
The next step, after appropriate examination and investigation, is often to inject a long acting steroid into the affected area – commonly known as a ‘cortisone injection’. This aims to relieve the inflammation causing the problem allowing the area to heal. Sore points in muscle known as ‘trigger points’ can also be treated.
We administer cortisone with local anaesthetics to minimise discomfort and can arrange further investigations, treatments or specialist referrals for more complex injections such as spinal or neck cortisones if needed.
