Private Prescriptions

We can prescribe medications for you privately - simply book an appointment with the Doctor to explain the problem and the prescription can be issued.
Private prescriptions are often requested for the following reasons:

• For patients away from home who have run out of their meds

• For items which a patient does not qualify for on the NHS e.g. Viagra

• For patients who need a prescription quickly and can’t wait for an NHS appointment

• For a problem that has just been diagnosed by us and needs treatment

Private prescriptions can be taken to any chemist to be dispensed just like an NHS one. The difference is that the pharmacy will charge the current NHS prescription rate of £7.40 per item on an NHS prescription (unless you get them free). The charge is unrelated to the actual cost of the medication.
With a private prescription you pay the cost of the drug plus the chemist’s fee,  so it often costs less than the NHS charge. Of course for some drugs it may be more.
