Homeopathy

Homeopathy has been used for over 200 years, both as a stand alone healing method, and also to support the individual who is taking conventional treatments or other therapies. Homeopathy is particularly widely used in India and as part of mainstream medical practice in many parts of mainland Europe.

Homeopaths believe that all symptoms of ill health are expressions of an imbalance within the whole person and it is the person who is supported by homeopathic remedies, not necessarily the named disease or ailment.

Homeopathic remedies are selected to match unique individual characteristics as well as taking into account family history and life experience.

People of all ages, from babies to the elderly, can use homeopathic remedies safely as they are easy to take, have no side effects, cannot create dependency and they are not tested on animals.

Most health problems can benefit at some stage from the judicious use of a homeopathic remedy, or course of homeopathic treatment. There are occasions when homeopathic treatment would not be advised by our homeopath and a different course of action would be recommended.

All patients are advised to maintain their links with their primary medical practitioner, usually a GP or consultant and are not encouraged to stop existing medication without prior discussion with the prescriber.

The Consultation

The first consultation takes between 1½ and 2 hours for adults (up to an hour for younger patients) and is an opportunity for you to explain how you are being affected by your symptoms. General information is given along with specific information about your emotional states, current stresses, past illnesses and relationships. From this information a homeopathic remedy will be as closely matched as possible and you will be given information on how and when to take your remedy.

A follow up appointment should be made for 4-6 weeks after the first appointment at which point it can be ascertained what progress has been made. A second or subsequent prescription may be made at this stage if it is required.

Further appointments may be recommended depending on the nature of the complaint and how long it has been a problem in the past.

Phone and email support is available between appointments.
