Who are we?

SelectGP is run by Dr. Simon Berrisford and Miss Julie Owen. Simon is a GP with over 20 years experience in the medical profession. He is a doctor who believes passionately in the ongoing education of GPs and in the importance of the doctor-patient relationship.

During an extremely varied and accomplished career he has worked in all types of general practice, written and lectured on a broad range of medical topics and worked at the exclusive health spa, Champneys.

After his initial studies at University of Manchester Medical School, Simon gained experience in a variety of disciplines including General Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Ear, Nose & Throat, Accident and Emergency Medicine and Palliative Medicine.

“I believe a proper GP should have a very wide range of experience,” he says. “After medical school I engaged in a range of specialities so that when I became a GP I could both diagnose and treat patients in a very hands-on way”

Simon has worked as a GP for 21 years and became a Member of the Royal College of General Practitioners, the highest professional qualification for a GP, and also holds the Diploma in Palliative Medicine and the Family Planning Certificate. During his time in practice he enjoyed a parallel career as a writer and Consultant Medical Editor of the professional medical journal Pulse and created UKpractice, the most successful online medical education service in the UK.

Simon is also a full Member of the British Association of Cosmetic Medicine, the only professional body for doctors involved in non-surgical aesthetic treatments.

Simon currently divides his time between working as an NHS doctor and as a private GP. He is involved with advanced pain control and treatments and interventions for incurable disease, having worked for many years in a local Hospice. Simon routinely looks after patients with cancers, Multiple Sclerosis and Motor Neurone Disease as well as end stage lung, heart and liver disease. He continues to lecture at GP educational meetings  and writes on medical subjects for a variety of publications.

Julie Owen is the Clinic Director at SelectGP and was initially responsible for setting up the aesthetic side of the practice. Now Julie also handles all the commercial aspects of the clinic – both medical and aesthetic.

Julie has 21 years experience in the cosmetic and aesthetic industry and is very experienced in assessing what patients need, advising them on their best course of action to improve their looks and wellbeing. Julie works closely with Dr Berrisford to help advise on treatment choices, budgeting, appointment scheduling and all enquiries relating to the Medical and the Aesthetic parts of the practice.
